About the position

The Respiratory Care Practitioner (Respiratory Therapist) at Montefino Ventilator Training provides essential medical care to patients, often working with smaller caseloads to foster meaningful relationships and improve patient outcomes. Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate devices such as mechanical ventilators and therapeutic gas administration apparatus.
  • Provide emergency care, including artificial respiration and assistance with cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
  • Determine treatment requirements, including type, method, and duration of therapy.
  • Monitor patient's physiological responses to therapy and consult with physicians if adverse reactions occur.
  • Read prescriptions and assess patient conditions based on vital signs and blood gases.
  • Collaborate with a team of healthcare professionals to manage patient care.
  • Enforce safety rules and adhere to physicians' orders.
  • Maintain patient charts with pertinent identification and therapy information.
  • Inspect, clean, test, and maintain respiratory therapy equipment.
  • Educate residents and their families about conditions and disease management techniques.
  • Explain treatment procedures to patients to gain cooperation.
  • Perform bronchopulmonary drainage and assist patients with breathing exercises.
  • Demonstrate respiratory care procedures to trainees and other healthcare personnel.
  • Make emergency visits to resolve equipment problems.
  • Provide supervision and guidance for residents during skills-building activities.
  • Develop and implement individual treatment plans for residents.
  • Assist with daily living activities, including meal preparation and personal hygiene.
  • Develop rapport with residents and cultivate a safe and supportive relationship.
  • Update resident case notes daily.
  • Ensure an appropriate staff-to-client ratio at all times.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent.
  • Current Respiratory License/Credentials from an accredited body (e.g., RRT, CRT, CA RCP).
  • 1+ years of experience as a Respiratory Therapist or similar role is desired but not required.
  • Current driver license with a clean driving record.
  • Service-oriented mindset with a passion for providing care.
  • Knowledge of the field and best practices, including oxygen delivery methods and sanitation procedures.
  • Ability to pursue continuing education to maintain current knowledge of the field.
  • Clear and effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English.
  • Ability to follow detailed instructions for care delivery and equipment use.
  • Ability to read and understand technical documentation.
  • Effective interpersonal skills, including active listening and empathy.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks with accuracy in a fast-paced environment.
  • Effective computer skills, including proficiency with standard office applications.
