The Respiratory Care Practitioner skillfully administers respiratory care modalities based on the individual needs of the residents in accordance with physician orders and standards set forth in the respiratory care policy and procedure manual. The Respiratory Care Practitioner's duties include, but are not limited to: Cardiopulmonary resuscitation, operation, maintenance and management of mechanical ventilators, patient transportation (internal and external), drawing blood for arterial blood gas analysis and interruption, aerosolized drug administration, oxygen therapy/humidity therapy, continuous positive airway pressure therapy (CPAP/BiPAP), pulse oximetry, capnography (side stream and main stream), specialized pulmonary function testing, intermittent positive pressure ventilation (IPPB), incentive spirometry, chest physiotherapy, airway clearance techniques and alternative airway maneuvers, patient assessment, participate in floor round monitoring, operation of all equipment in accordance with department policy, quality control of all equipment, active participation in the department's Quality Assurance program, equipment disinfection, participation in in-service education program, apnea monitoring, communication skills, meter dose inhaler medication administration, and any other assignment as delegated by Supervisor.
