About the position

The Respiratory Virus Surveillance Coordinator/Epidemiologist will play a crucial role in managing and facilitating activities related to respiratory virus surveillance under the CDC's Epidemiology and Laboratory Capacity cooperative agreement. This position involves collaboration with various teams to enhance surveillance efforts, manage data, and support public health decision-making regarding respiratory viruses in California.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with day-to-day coordination of statewide respiratory virus surveillance, including data entry, database maintenance, data interpretations, and report or dashboard generation.
  • Interact with local health departments, hospital clinicians and laboratories, and medical record departments to collect data and conduct follow-up.
  • Participate in and coordinate ongoing development, testing, implementation, and evaluation of dashboards and other reports.
  • Troubleshoot problems reported by dashboard users.
  • Create and update technical documentation for dashboards and reports to ensure users can utilize dashboards as part of their routine workflow.
  • Respond to data requests in a fast-paced environment, while ensuring quality and accuracy.
  • Assist with data management, analysis, and quality control; create and test dashboards and metrics; review definitions and calculations for key metrics; assist with development of scope, specifications, and visualization for metrics and indicators.
  • Utilize statistics and research methods commonly used in epidemiological research to analyze and report on public health data.
  • Assist with compilation of data and preparation of tables, graphs, and charts for analytic projects and grant reporting.

Requirements

  • Knowledge in R, Python, and/or other similar programming languages.
  • Experience in epidemiological research methods and data analysis.
  • Ability to manage and coordinate multiple projects and tasks effectively.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with genomic epidemiology and wastewater surveillance.
  • Familiarity with public health data management and reporting systems.

Benefits

  • Salary range: $82,000 to $110,000 annually depending on experience/qualifications.
