About The Position

The Rest Area Specialist plays a vital role in keeping rest areas safe, clean, and welcoming. This position supports facility upkeep, landscaping, maintenance, and contractor coordination. Exceptional customer service is key as you assist travelers and help maintain a positive experience for all who stop by. The role involves working outdoors in all seasons and taking pride in a job well done.

Requirements

Six months of experience operating heavy or light motorized equipment, using hand and power tools, performing minor servicing of equipment, general landscaping, maintenance, mechanical, farming, logging, and/or construction experience, or training.
Valid driver’s license issued by the state where the employee resides.
Must obtain and maintain First Aid/CPR certification and Bloodborne Pathogens training from an agency-accepted certification authority.
Must reside within a 60-minute travel distance to the Rest Area. If relocating, the move must be completed within 90 days of the start date.

Nice To Haves

Experience performing basic plumbing, carpentry, electrical work, painting, cleaning, and landscaping.
Knowledge of how to operate irrigation systems.
Knowledge of state and federal safety regulations, including proper use of personal protective equipment and safe work practices.
Ability to communicate clearly, both verbally and in writing.
Experience providing excellent customer service in a professional or volunteer setting.
Familiar with Microsoft Office programs like email, spreadsheets, and word documents to help with reports and record-keeping.
Proven ability to manage tasks, meet deadlines, and stay organized in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

Keep facilities and grounds clean, safe, and in top shape.
Perform daily inspections, basic maintenance, and landscaping.
Operate equipment such as mowers, tractors, and power tools.
Complete minor plumbing, carpentry, and electrical repairs.
Support contractors and fill-in staff when needed.
Help travelers and make sure site rules are followed.
Communicate clearly with your team, supervisor, and other partners.
