The Restaurant Captain at Southall Farm & Inn is a pivotal role responsible for overseeing the dining service in our signature restaurant. This position is designed for individuals who are passionate about providing an immersive and well-curated dining experience that highlights our unique seed-to-table operation. The Captain will be expected to communicate guest orders, including any special needs or requests, to the kitchen and bar using the hotel's point-of-sales system, ensuring that food and beverage timings are coordinated effectively. This role requires a proactive approach to anticipating guest needs and delivering exceptional service throughout the dining experience. In addition to managing the dining service, the Captain will also be involved in Gueridon tableside cooking and training presentations, which adds a unique touch to the dining experience. The position demands a thorough understanding of both front-of-house and back-of-house procedures, as well as the ability to coordinate with culinary staff regarding daily and weekly changes and requests. Mentoring and training new staff members is also a key responsibility, providing insight and direction to ensure that service standards are met or exceeded. The Captain will be responsible for completing all restocking and cleaning duties, performing opening and closing side work as instructed. Memorization of menu items, recipes, and daily specials is essential to answer customer questions and make informed recommendations. Attendance at all pre-meal and departmental meetings is required to enhance communication and product knowledge. Maintaining a clean and professional appearance, along with a friendly and courteous demeanor, is crucial in this role. The Captain will also handle guest checks accurately, processing cash and credit card payments, and ensuring that all transactions are settled properly. This position requires harmonious and professional interaction with co-workers and supervisors, contributing to a positive work environment.
