About the position

The Restoration Crew Lead at Coos Watershed Association is responsible for overseeing restoration project crews, including youth crews, ensuring safe working conditions, and implementing restoration strategies. This full-time position involves both office and fieldwork, focusing on community engagement and environmental integrity within the Coos watershed.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise work crews of up to ten individuals to ensure safe and effective restoration implementation.
  • Train and oversee youth crews while working on rural job sites with motorized equipment and power tools.
  • Provide mentorship to youth crews, embodying professional skills and safety consciousness.
  • Manage the Matson Creek Wetland Preserve and associated infrastructure with the Executive Director and Plants Program Manager.
  • Assist with day-to-day operations of the Native Plant Nursery.
  • Act as the Association's safety officer and lead quarterly safety meetings.
  • Maintain detailed records of work completed and funds expended according to project site and funding source.
  • Estimate and order materials for jobs in compliance with the Association's Fiscal Policy.
  • Drive the crew truck and safely transport crew members and project supplies to work sites.
  • Build and maintain collaborative relationships with landowners, community members, and other partners.
  • Contribute to outreach activities by providing updated information on projects.
  • Create an inclusive work environment and communicate effectively with staff and partners.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Two years of experience in supervising work crews and one year supervising youth crews, especially at-risk youth.
  • Valid Oregon driver's license and personal automobile insurance.
  • Certified CPR/First Aid Certification, or ability to obtain within 6 months.
  • Experience in maintaining equipment, tools, and vehicles, including small engine repair.
  • Certified to safely operate an ATV or ability to obtain within 6 months.
  • Certified to safely operate a chainsaw or ability to obtain within 6 months.
  • Experience safely operating a tractor.
  • At least 2 years of experience in planting and growing native plants.
  • Experience with fence construction and erosion control.
  • Extensive knowledge of safe working practices certified by OR-OSHA.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Knowledge of conservation issues in the region and ability to work with partners.

Nice-to-haves

  • Working knowledge of using a GPS unit.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • A positive attitude with a flexible approach to work.
