About the position

The Restoration Crew Member position at The Sustainability Institute involves engaging young adults in various habitat restoration activities aimed at enhancing coastal resiliency in South Carolina. Crew Members will participate in projects such as oyster reef building, marsh grass planting, and water quality assurance, while also receiving training and building field skills.

Responsibilities

  • Engage in habitat restoration activities in public parks, forests, and waterways.
  • Restore salt marshes and oyster reefs.
  • Plant native plants and trees.
  • Perform water quality testing and monitoring.
  • Maintain rain gardens.
  • Survey and present energy efficiency workshops throughout the community.

Requirements

  • Available during program hours (8am-4pm Monday-Friday).
  • Successful completion of a criminal history check.
  • Aged between 17-24 during enrollment.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Ability to perform climbing, heavy lifting, bending, and working from one's knees or back.
  • Ability to work in excessive hot, cold, or rainy conditions.
