About the position

The Retail Assistant Manager supports the Retail Store Manager in overseeing daily operations at a Southern States Cooperative facility. This role involves planning and directing sales, merchandising, inventory management, and facility maintenance while ensuring compliance with company policies and government regulations. The position requires a blend of operational management and customer service skills to drive sales and maintain a positive shopping environment.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate with the Retail Store Manager to execute a strategic retail operations plan.
  • Utilize standard operating procedures to maximize efficiencies while complying with policies and regulations.
  • Manage daily operations for multiple departments within the facility.
  • Support front-end/point-of-sale and handle escalated customer inquiries.
  • Manage showroom merchandising and ensure optimum inventory levels.
  • Oversee warehouse operations including receiving and customer deliveries.
  • Lead daily housekeeping duties to ensure a safe and clean environment.
  • Develop a highly effective team and coach facility team members to drive sales.
  • Implement strategies for achieving sales and production goals.
  • Track metrics and regularly update progress on performance goals.
  • Create staff schedules and distribute work assignments.
  • Lead daily team meetings to communicate essential information and foster a positive environment.
  • Engage regularly with customers to make sales and take orders for services.
  • Promote the SSC brand and business philosophy in the community.
  • Coordinate with leadership to execute a staffing plan for seasonal volume adjustments.
  • Oversee the hiring process and conduct performance reviews.
  • Research and assess regional merchandising techniques and pricing trends.
  • Administer vehicle and equipment maintenance programs.
  • Perform physical inspections and ensure compliance with safety regulations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree or an Associate's Degree in agronomy, plant science, animal science, business management, or a related field.
  • Minimum of three years of related experience in agribusiness or a related industry.
  • At least one year in a leadership role.
  • Valid Driver's License is required.
  • Forklift Certification (or ability to obtain) may be required.

Nice-to-haves

  • Previous experience managing daily business operations.
  • Previous Southern States work experience is strongly preferred.
