About the position

The Retail Assistant Store Manager at Office Depot, Inc. is responsible for driving sales and service growth within the store while fostering a customer-centric environment. This role involves enhancing visual merchandising standards, managing freight and logistics activities, and ensuring exceptional client satisfaction. The Assistant Manager will also lead a team, engage with the local community, and uphold the company's core values of Customer, Commitment, Change, Caring, and Creativity. This position requires flexibility in scheduling, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, and includes key carrier responsibilities such as opening and closing the store.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with the management team to drive memorable customer experiences and client satisfaction.
  • Ensure the execution of Office Depot, Inc. selling techniques and sales training across the store.
  • Foster a sales-focused environment through assisting with the training and development of associates.
  • Act as a role model for delivering exceptional customer service and product expertise.
  • Process merchandise accurately and efficiently, adhering to established procedures, deadlines, and visual merchandising standards.
  • Identify areas for process improvement and implement plans to reduce waste and inefficiencies.
  • Assist the General Manager in providing guidance and effective coaching to associates for improved performance.
  • Contribute to increasing sales and profitability through conversion, Average Order Value (AOV), and customer satisfaction improvement initiatives.
  • Provide guidance, direction, and ongoing training to store associates, including Print Services associates.
  • Facilitate training sessions on the business model and the holistic service offering for clients/customers.
  • Observe, coach, and provide feedback to enhance associate proficiency and build a culture of trust and brand loyalty.
  • Maintain the safety and security of the building and associates during the absence of other managers.
  • Perform opening and closing responsibilities, including activation and deactivation of the store's alarm system, cash handling, and daily store balancing.
  • Ensure regular loss prevention compliance.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent, Bachelor's preferred in Business, Marketing, Retail, or related fields.
  • Minimum 1-3 years of experience in a related field.
  • Retail, sales, customer-facing, and/or supervisory experience preferred.
  • Basic computer skills and the ability to use computers and technology for information.
  • Experience with Logistics and Freight.
  • Advanced selling skills.
  • Ability to effectively lead and coach others in a professional environment.
  • Skills in coaching/motivating, conflict management, problem-solving, and driving results.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to plan, prioritize, and execute detailed instructions in a timely manner.
  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Adaptability to a changing environment and focus on driving results.
  • Client-focused, positive and engaging, action-oriented, with a passion for the brand.
