About the position

The Retail Associate at Ross is a vital role responsible for ensuring that customers have a positive shopping experience. This position requires the Associate to engage with customers by making eye contact, smiling, and greeting them in a courteous and friendly manner. The Retail Associate is expected to treat fellow Associates with respect and to efficiently follow all company best practice standards as outlined in various work centers. Maintaining a clean work area is essential, as is ensuring proper merchandise presentation. The Associate will be engaged in various tasks throughout their working hours and may be asked to perform additional duties as needed to help achieve customer service and operational goals. Safety is the number one priority for the Retail Associate, who must maintain a high level of awareness on the sales floor to create a safe and secure shopping environment. This includes keeping emergency exits clear and reporting any unsafe conditions to Store Leadership. The Associate is expected to assist customers in any way necessary, including being register-trained, answering questions, and providing prompt responses to customer inquiries. They must represent and support the company brand at all times, ensuring that all interactions with customers and fellow Associates are friendly and professional. In addition to customer service, the Retail Associate will perform various cleaning tasks to maintain the store's appearance, including sweeping, mopping, and disinfecting high-touch areas. They will also be responsible for organizing merchandise, expediting newly received items to the sales floor, and adhering to loss prevention standards. The Retail Associate must demonstrate integrity and honesty in all interactions, safeguard confidential information, and follow all policies regarding cash and transactions. Overall, the Retail Associate plays a crucial role in maximizing productivity and ensuring a well-maintained store environment.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure customers have a positive shopping experience by greeting them courteously and professionally.
  • Maintain a clutter-free and safe shopping environment by keeping emergency exits clear and reporting unsafe conditions.
  • Assist customers with merchandise, answer questions, and provide prompt responses to customer inquiries.
  • Perform cleaning tasks to maintain merchandise, customer, and team areas, including sweeping, mopping, and disinfecting high-touch areas.
  • Expedite newly received merchandise to the sales floor and ensure proper merchandising according to company standards.
  • Follow all policies and procedures concerning cash, check, charge card, and refund transactions.
  • Demonstrate a sense of urgency in performing tasks and maximizing productivity by executing store best practices.

Requirements

  • Ability to communicate effectively with customers, associates, and store leadership in a friendly and respectful manner.
  • Basic mathematical skills commonly used in retail environments.
  • Ability to use all store equipment, including PDTs, registers, and PCs as required.
  • Ability to spend up to 100% of working time standing, walking, and moving around the store.
  • Ability to regularly bend at the waist, squat, kneel, climb, carry, reach, and stoop.
