About the position

The Retail Clerk position at Centralia College involves providing customer service and managing various bookstore operations under the supervision of the Bookstore Supervisor. The role includes ordering and receiving merchandise, handling sales and inventory management, and ensuring a positive shopping experience for students, staff, and faculty. The position requires flexibility in working hours, including evenings and weekends, to meet the needs of the bookstore and its customers.

Responsibilities

• Assist customers with the purchase, return, and exchange of course materials and general merchandise.
• Process online orders and coordinate vending machine inventory and closeout.
• Provide problem-solving assistance for customers and faculty regarding textbook availability and inquiries.
• Check bookstore voicemail/email and respond to inquiries promptly.
• Coordinate displays and store arrangement, assisting with advertising for seasonal changes and special sales.
• Assist with opening and closing store procedures, ensuring prompt delivery of daily deposits.
• Conduct quarterly and annual inventory processes, maintaining accurate records and investigating discrepancies.
• Attach purchase orders and invoices, entering information into the point-of-sale (POS) system.
• Assist with book grant accounts and coordinate with Financial Aid regarding student accounts.
• Receive, unload, and process packages and freight, handling items up to 50lbs.
• Communicate potential theft, security, and cash concerns.

Requirements

• One year of experience in retail selling or food counter work.
• Equivalent education/experience.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience working in a college bookstore.
• Experience with Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable.
• Food Handlers Card.
