About the position

The Tech Shop Department Manager at Barnes & Noble College is responsible for overseeing the operations of the Tech Shop, ensuring exceptional customer service, and managing a team of tech staff. This role involves engaging with customers to assist with technology purchases, maintaining the sales floor, and ensuring that the department is well-stocked and operationally sound. The manager will also provide on-site support for computer repairs and maintain relationships with vendors for technical solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Support all technology needs on the sales floor and supervise Tech team members.
  • Model outstanding customer service and engage with customers to assist with technology purchases.
  • Provide oversight to the Tech Shop department and ensure team members are knowledgeable about product trends.
  • Enforce loss prevention procedures and maintain a well-merchandised store environment.
  • Provide on-site support for computer repairs and ensure quality service is delivered in a timely manner.
  • Build relationships with third-party vendors for technical information and repair solutions.
  • Maintain an appealing sales floor by organizing and cleaning product displays.
  • Assist with processing sales transactions involving cash, credit, or financial aid payments.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 18 years of age.
  • Experience in a retail setting, marketing, and/or IT preferred.
  • 2 years of experience as a computer repair technician or equivalent education and experience.
  • A+ and/or Apple certification required within 60 days.
  • Experience with Windows 7, 8, & 10 and Apple O/S & iMac.
  • Hardware diagnostics and repair experience.
  • Knowledge of POS sales, billing, and inventory systems.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Outstanding customer service skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Basic programming and web page development maintenance experience.
  • High energy and self-starter attitude.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
