About the position

The Retail Department Manager for Collegiate & Logo Merchandise at Barnes & Noble Education, Inc. is responsible for overseeing the General Merchandise department within a retail environment focused on serving the academic community. This role involves managing daily operations, ensuring appealing displays, and providing exceptional customer service to students, faculty, and the general public. The Department Manager will also be a subject matter expert in their department while maintaining knowledge of other operational areas to enhance customer interactions.

Responsibilities

• Support all store operations and departments in partnership with the management team.
• Manage daily activities of the selling floor to ensure the appeal of displays and availability of merchandise.
• Maintain a presence on the sales floor to greet customers and provide assistance.
• Use department-specific technology to answer questions and meet customer needs.
• Maintain an appealing and clean sales floor according to merchandising guidelines.
• Assist with processing sales transactions involving cash, credit, or financial aid payments.

Requirements

• 2+ years' experience in a retail setting as a manager or buyer preferred.
• High school diploma or GED required.
• Outstanding customer service skills to match customers to products that meet their needs.
• Basic reading, writing, and accounting skills required.
• Excellent customer service and communication skills needed.
• Strong interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills.
