About the position

The Retail Department Manager for Collegiate & Logo Merchandise at Barnes & Noble College is responsible for overseeing the General Merchandise department within a dynamic retail environment on college campuses. This role focuses on delivering exceptional customer service, managing daily store operations, and ensuring the availability and appeal of merchandise. The Department Manager will engage with a diverse customer base, including students and faculty, while leading a team to meet the needs of the academic community.

Responsibilities

• Support all store operations and departments in partnership with the management team.
• Manage daily activities of the selling floor to ensure appealing displays and merchandise availability.
• Maintain a presence on the sales floor to greet customers and provide assistance.
• Use department-specific technology to answer questions and meet customer needs.
• Maintain an appealing and clean sales floor according to merchandising guidelines.
• Assist with processing sales transactions involving cash, credit, or financial aid payments.

Requirements

• 2+ years' experience in a retail setting as a manager or buyer preferred.
• High school diploma/GED required.
• Outstanding customer service skills to match customers to products that meet their needs.
• Basic reading, writing, and accounting skills required.
• Excellent customer service and communication skills needed.
• Strong interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
