About the position

The Retail Department Manager for Course Materials & Faculty Liaison at Barnes & Noble College is responsible for overseeing the textbook department, ensuring the availability of course materials for students and faculty. This role involves direct customer interaction, managing inventory, and supporting store operations to enhance customer experiences and bookstore loyalty.

Responsibilities

• Support all store operations and departments in partnership with the management team.
• Execute the textbook cycle from setup to returns independently or with team support.
• Use department-specific technology to answer questions about course material and recommend products.
• Maintain a working knowledge of all departments to provide support and guidance to customers and team members.
• Maintain a presence on the sales floor to greet customers and assist with purchases.
• Maintain an appealing sales floor by tagging, shelving, arranging, cleaning, and organizing products.
• Assist with processing sales transactions involving cash, credit, or financial aid payments.

Requirements

• 2+ years' experience in a retail setting as a manager or buyer preferred.
• High school diploma/GED required.
• Outstanding customer service skills to match customers to products that meet their needs.
• Basic reading, writing, and accounting skills required.
• Excellent customer service and communication skills needed.
• Strong interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
