About the position

As a Retail Department Supervisor at Marshalls, you will play a crucial role in executing receiving and merchandising standards while ensuring that Associates are processing efficiently and effectively. Your primary responsibility will be to create an excellent customer experience by engaging with customers and maintaining a clean and organized store environment. You will be expected to model exceptional customer service and promote a culture of honesty and integrity within the team. In this position, you will orchestrate truck deliveries, prioritizing the processing of merchandise onto the sales floor. You will also be responsible for training and mentoring Associates on established merchandising and processing principles, ensuring that merchandise is properly tagged, hung, secured, and coded. Communication with the Coordinator on Duty will be essential to ensure the efficient flow of goods to the sales floor. You will monitor the productivity of your team, providing coaching as necessary, and organize back stock for easy replenishment. Maintaining organizational, cleanliness, and recovery standards for the backroom area is also a key responsibility. You will ensure compliance with recycling and hazardous waste programs, communicate effectively with management and Associates regarding priorities, and provide recognition and constructive feedback. Additionally, you will partner with management to identify Associate training needs and ensure adherence to all labor laws, policies, and procedures. Promoting credit and loyalty programs, supporting store shrink reduction goals, and maintaining a safe environment will also be part of your duties. Other tasks may be assigned as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Execute receiving and merchandising standards while ensuring efficient processing by Associates.
  • Create a positive internal and external customer experience.
  • Promote a culture of honesty and integrity; maintain confidentiality.
  • Orchestrate truck delivery, prioritizing the processing of merchandise onto the sales floor.
  • Train and mentor Associates on established merchandising and processing principles.
  • Ensure merchandise is properly tagged, hung, secured, and coded.
  • Communicate with the Coordinator on Duty to ensure efficient flow of goods to sales floor.
  • Ensure Associates complete tasks and activities according to store plan; prioritize as needed.
  • Monitor productivity of team and coach as necessary.
  • Organize and rotate back stock for easy replenishment.
  • Maintain and uphold merchandising philosophy and signage standards.
  • Maintain all organizational, cleanliness and recovery standards for the backroom area.
  • Ensure compliance with recycling and hazardous waste programs.
  • Communicate accurately and effectively with management and Associates when setting and addressing priorities; provide progress updates.
  • Provide and accept recognition and constructive feedback.
  • Partner with Management on Associate training needs to increase effectiveness.
  • Ensure adherence to all labor laws, policies, and procedures.
  • Promote credit and loyalty programs.
  • Support and participate in store shrink reduction goals and programs.
  • Promote safety awareness and maintain a safe environment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • 1 year of retail experience
  • 6 months of leadership experience
  • Superior communication and organizational skills with attention to detail
  • Capable of multi-tasking
  • Able to respond appropriately to changes in direction or unexpected situations
  • Team player, working effectively with peers and supervisors
  • Capable of lifting heavy objects with or without reasonable accommodation
  • Able to train others
