About the position

The Retail General Manager (GM) at Ohio Valley Goodwill Industries is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the retail store, ensuring efficient production activities and effective management of the retail selling floor. This role includes responsibilities in customer service, inventory control, budgeting, and maintaining safety and housekeeping standards. The GM plays a crucial role in defining team roles, providing training, and setting performance expectations for direct reports, while also ensuring a high level of customer service and operational efficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Manage daily operations of the retail store, including production activities and retail selling floor.
  • Oversee customer service, stocking, merchandising, inventory control, budgeting, and record keeping.
  • Ensure overall production efficiency, housekeeping standards, safety standards, and loss prevention.
  • Define roles, responsibilities, and requirements for direct reports and hold them accountable.
  • Set specific performance expectations and provide necessary training and feedback to staff.
  • Monitor and ensure effective flow of donations adhering to standards and laws.
  • Manage inventory levels and optimize revenue generation through quality merchandise.
  • Review and analyze profit and loss statements to adjust store operations accordingly.
  • Ensure daily banking requirements are met and manage payroll submissions.
  • Create an atmosphere of exceptional customer service and resolve customer complaints.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; some college preferred.
  • Two to three years of previous retail progressive management experience supervising several departments and/or staff of 15 or more employees.
  • Minimum of five years' experience in retail or equivalent industry.
  • Experience in selecting, assessing, coaching, and developing associates in a retail environment.
  • Full Profit + Loss ownership experience.
  • Proficiency in setting and managing schedules for store staff.
  • Effective communication skills in English, both orally and in writing.
  • Math and computer skills required.
  • Broad knowledge of the thrift and resale industry.
  • Highly developed sense of customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to perform the same functions as direct reports and complete paperwork efficiently.
  • Good judgment in handling day-to-day situations.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including opening and closing shifts.
