About the position

The Retail General Manager is responsible for fostering a 'team member first' culture while ensuring excellent customer service in a retail environment. This role oversees store operations, focusing on maximizing sales and profitability through effective management of merchandise, inventory, expenses, and human resources.

Responsibilities

  • Embody the GHC culture of treating team members as the #1 priority.
  • Greet and assist customers positively, answering questions and resolving concerns.
  • Maintain a positive store presence by providing excellent customer service and holding team members accountable.
  • Support and guide team members through one-on-one coaching sessions and meetings.
  • Ensure a safe working environment by identifying and rectifying safety issues or violations.
  • Analyze business trends and implement plans to maximize sales and meet goals.
  • Control shrink, expenses, and payroll to maximize profitability while maintaining staffing levels.
  • Ensure appropriate merchandise stock levels and monitor inventory to optimize turns.
  • Review department/store trends and recommend changes to maximize goals.
  • Conduct store, department, and yard walks to address issues with department heads.
  • Evaluate and react to performance issues continually.
  • Recruit candidates as needed and train team members in all business aspects.
  • Conduct performance evaluations at 90 days, annually, and as needed.
  • Hold regular store meetings to convey important messages to the team.
  • Collaborate with the Operations Manager on loss prevention efforts.
  • Work with merchandiser and store management to maintain displays.
  • Uphold safety standards and administer safety training.
  • Follow all company policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 3+ years of Retail Experience (preferred in hardware/lumber industry)
  • 1-3 years of supervising employees
  • 2-3 years of retail management experience preferred
