About the position

The Retail General Manager at Goodwill Southern California is responsible for overseeing the efficient operation of a retail store. This role involves managing and leading the store team to achieve sales, production, customer service, payroll, safety, and expense control goals. The position requires strong leadership skills, a focus on customer service, and the ability to maintain a safe and productive work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures excellent service and team relations by engaging with ambassadors, customers, and donors.
  • Ensures compliance with safety rules and promotes caution in work-related activities.
  • Leads the team to maintain a clean and safe environment according to company safety standards.
  • Achieves financial objectives by monitoring the weekly budget and initiating corrective actions as needed.
  • Manages the receipt and processing of donated goods to meet company standards.
  • Supervises hiring, training, and performance management of employees.
  • Follows proper auditing procedures and ensures regulatory compliance.
  • Reviews merchandising needs and leads the team to achieve production goals.
  • Authorizes price markdowns and reacts promptly to sell-through.
  • Manages employee schedules and timesheets according to company policy.
  • Enforces store asset control and security policies.
  • Monitors and maintains store conditions to meet company standards.
  • Attends required meetings and training sessions.
  • Works flexible shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
  • May be required to work at nearby locations.
  • Supervises a team of 9-35 Ambassadors.

Requirements

  • 3-5 years of supervisory experience in a customer-focused management role.
  • Retail experience preferred.
  • High school diploma or GED required; college degree is helpful.
  • Ability to multitask with minimal supervision.
  • Bilingual in Spanish is helpful.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • Strong communication, training, and people skills.
  • Experience with timekeeping systems and POS systems.
  • Ability to handle confidential information and maintain punctual attendance.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bilingual in Spanish is preferred.
  • Experience in retail management is a plus.
