About the position

The Retail Manager/Buyer position is responsible for overseeing the operations of retail home improvement stores, focusing on customer preferences, inventory management, and staff supervision. This role involves strategic planning and collaboration with the management/buying group to enhance store performance and customer satisfaction.

Responsibilities

  • Identify customer preferences and forecast consumer trends
  • Manage and supervise retail staff
  • Oversee administrative tasks in the retail establishment
  • Merchandise store layout and signage
  • Train new employees
  • Monitor stock levels and plan for ordering accordingly
  • Work within the management/buying group to set goals and create strategies
  • Oversee customer service
  • Control inventory
  • Replenish merchandise across multiple retail store locations
  • Create accurate purchase orders and track them accordingly
  • Process item setup and update costs, retails, and general stocking information

Requirements

  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in retail management in a large retail environment, preferably in the retail home improvement space
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to build relationships with vendors, suppliers, and retail store personnel
  • Strong analytical skills, detail-oriented, and excellent organizational skills
  • Familiarity with market research, data analysis, and forecasting techniques
  • Excellent knowledge of MS Office; working knowledge of retail software (e.g. Epicor Eagle) is an advantage
