About the position

The Retail Pharmacy Tech II position is a full-time role located in Menomonee Falls, WI, specifically designed for experienced licensed pharmacy technicians who are eager to expand their skill set, particularly in compounding. This position operates on a first shift schedule from Monday to Friday, with no weekend work required. The role involves performing complex pharmaceutical processes that necessitate advanced skills and knowledge beyond the standard pharmacy technician duties. The technician will work in specialized environments such as compounding areas, remote dispensaries, or medication history settings. In this role, the pharmacy technician will serve as an expert in utilizing specialized equipment and technology, addressing technical issues as they arise. They will be responsible for identifying quality improvement opportunities to ensure safe, effective, and efficient patient care. The technician will also provide input and support for operational changes and standardization efforts within the site and system. Participation in specialized work teams, committees, and councils is expected, along with serving as a role model in clinical support needs. Compliance with legal, regulatory, and accreditation standards is crucial, and the technician must stay current with changes in their specialized field. They will collaborate with department leadership to adopt best practices and hold others accountable for these standards. Additionally, the technician will act as a resource for other pharmacy team members, physicians, nurses, and ancillary departments, solving complex problems and ensuring issues are escalated and resolved appropriately. Training and education of team members in specialized areas will also be part of the responsibilities, as well as serving as a liaison to system pharmacy teams. The technician must demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide age-appropriate care, understanding the principles of growth and development across the lifespan. This includes assessing patient data and interpreting the necessary information to meet each patient's specific needs as outlined in departmental policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Perform services and functions within assigned areas requiring advanced skills and knowledge beyond those of a standard Pharmacy Technician.
  • Work in specialized environments such as compounding, remote dispensaries, or medication history.
  • Serve as an expert with equipment and technology in specialized areas and problem-solve technical issues as they arise.
  • Identify quality improvement opportunities to ensure safe, effective, and efficient services and patient care.
  • Provide input to and support the implementation of operational changes and site/system standardization.
  • Participate in specialized work teams, committees, and councils.
  • Act as a role model in clinical support needs, including DIR fees.
  • Comply with legal, regulatory, and accreditation standards, and stay current with changes in the specialized field.
  • Collaborate with department leadership to adopt best practices and hold others accountable for these practices.
  • Serve as a resource for other pharmacy team members, physicians, nurses, and ancillary departments, solving complex problems and escalating issues as needed.
  • Collaborate with department leaders to develop and coordinate team member education, training, orientation, and competency.
  • Train other team members in specialized areas and serve as the department liaison to system pharmacy teams in specialty areas.

Requirements

  • Pharmacy Technician certification (CPhT) or Pharmacy Technician Certified (ExCPT) must be obtained within 2 years.
  • If working in WI: Registered as a Pharmacy Technician through Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services, application must be submitted prior to start date.
  • If working in IL: Registered as a Pharmacy Technician through Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation, application must be submitted prior to start date with license obtained within 60 days of submission.
  • High School Graduate.
  • Typically requires 5 years of experience as a Pharmacy Technician, depending on specialty area.
  • Good mathematical skills.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Exceptional customer service, communication, organization, problem resolution, and process development skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, maintain confidentiality, and take initiative.
  • Advanced computer skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Diabetic shoe fitting certification (to be obtained through on-the-job training if applicable).
  • Life support training courses may be required depending on department discretion.
