The Retail Purchasing Manager will direct and oversee TerrAscend Northeast's strategic and long-term retail merchandising strategies and team for the Northeast dispensary network, including overseeing Assistant Buyers and Purchasing Coordinators. They will directly create and shape the procurement strategy with regards to product mix, pricing, inventory levels, and selection within the stores. The Retail Purchasing Manager also works closely with the wholesale sales team in each state. This is a hybrid role that requires occasional travel to our various retail and office locations in the Northeast Market (NJ, MD, and PA). We will be prioritizing applicants who already reside in one of these states. In this role, you will develop and oversee the implementation of merchandising strategies for core assortments by market and by store by utilizing company reports and tools. You will monitor retail inventory levels at the SKU level to ensure proper levels to support current sales plans, review and approve purchase orders quickly and timely to ensure the requested products from the vendor remain available, and develop and maintain relationships with supply partners. You will also negotiate with suppliers and vendors to secure advantageous terms and methods, interface with retail locations on existing and new products and inventory needs, and approve retail pricing, ensuring sales, markups, and markdowns are executed. Additionally, you will help develop and support product launches and promotional strategies focused on driving incremental revenue and profit dollars, and partner with Finance to analyze SKU-level pricing and profitability, creating actionable plans for the team to execute. It is essential to remain in full compliance with the laws and regulations for each location at all times.

Responsibilities

  • Direct and oversee TerrAscend Northeast's strategic and long-term retail merchandising strategies and team for the Northeast dispensary network.
  • Create and shape the procurement strategy regarding product mix, pricing, inventory levels, and selection within the stores.
  • Develop and oversee the implementation of merchandising strategies for core assortments by market and by store.
  • Monitor retail inventory levels at the SKU level to ensure proper levels to support current sales plans.
  • Review and approve purchase orders quickly and timely to ensure requested products from the vendor remain available.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with supply partners, liaising between TA and National Accounts and Partners.
  • Negotiate with suppliers and vendors to secure advantageous terms and methods.
  • Interface with retail locations on existing and new products and inventory needs.
  • Approve retail pricing, ensuring sales, markups, and markdowns are executed.
  • Help develop and support product launches and promotional strategies focused on driving incremental revenue and profit dollars.
  • Partner with Finance to analyze SKU-level pricing and profitability and create actionable plans for the team to execute.
  • Remain in full compliance with the laws and regulations for each location.

Requirements

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree is desirable.
  • Merchandising and buying experience (2+ years), ideally in cannabis.
  • Cannabis product knowledge is desirable.
  • Supervisory experience required.
  • Excellent working knowledge of Excel and use of other software systems used for analytics.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, set priorities, and meet deadlines.
  • Experience frequently interacting with customers, fulfilling customer requests, and addressing issues, questions, or suggestions.
  • Professional written and verbal communication with multiple levels and departments.
  • Knowledge of office management systems and procedures.
  • Good interpersonal skills and proven ability to positively influence people.
  • Detail oriented with an eye on process optimization.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, manage high stress situations, and be flexible and adaptable.
