About the position

As a Retail Store Associate and Stocker at Big Lots, you will be an integral part of our team, contributing to the overall success of the store by providing exceptional customer service and maintaining store operations. Your role will involve a variety of tasks that ensure our customers have a pleasant shopping experience. You will be responsible for greeting and assisting customers, operating point-of-sale systems, and participating in the freight flow process, which includes unloading trucks and stocking merchandise. Additionally, you will help maintain the store's appearance, both inside and out, by performing light maintenance and cleaning duties as assigned. In this position, you will also play a key role in driving customer loyalty by encouraging participation in our loyalty program and processing rewards at checkout. You will be involved in the furniture department operations, assisting with carry-outs and display assembly as needed. Your ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays, will be essential to meet the needs of our customers and the store's operational requirements. Responsibilities

  • Greets and assists customers as needed to maintain the highest level of customer service.
  • Maintains and operates point-of-sale systems efficiently and accurately.
  • Drives customer loyalty program participation, including sign-ups and rewards processing at check-out.
  • Participates in the freight flow process including truck unloading, stocking, merchandise presentation, and recovery.
  • Participates in furniture department operations including carry-outs and display assembly as needed.
  • Maintains appearance of the store's interior and exterior to company standards including light maintenance duties and cleaning.
  • Performs daily front-end maintenance including check stand cleanliness, replenishment of merchandise and supplies, and floor safety.
  • Performs other tasks as assigned by Store Leadership, such as cart retrieval, shrink control, and safety-related tasks.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 16 years of age.
  • Strong customer service and communication skills required.
  • Ability to work a flexible work schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays required.
  • Prior retail experience preferred.
  • Previous experience operating a cash register preferred.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull a minimum of 50 pounds required.
  • Ability to unload freight, move product on and off of store shelves, walk, stand, bend, stoop, or kneel for long periods of time, and move freely throughout the store on a continual basis required.
  • Basic English literacy and math skills required.

  • Prior retail experience preferred.
  • Previous experience operating a cash register preferred.
