About The Position

The Retirement Services Counselor I is responsible for providing confidential retirement counseling to active, inactive, disabled, and retired members. This role involves assisting members in understanding their retirement benefits, calculations, and health benefits, while also ensuring compliance with retirement rules and procedures.

Requirements

• Minimum of two years of experience processing pension applications and calculations or customer service experience with pension products.
• Knowledge of the 32BJ Pension Fund administration preferred.
• Effective oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to prioritize work and meet deadlines.
• Detailed knowledge of pension benefits and ability to read plan documents.
• Proficiency in using multiple software programs including Excel, Microsoft Word, and Windows applications.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.

Nice To Haves

• Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred.
• College graduate with Call Center experience in Pension Customer Service preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide confidential retirement counseling as a case manager to members.
• Interpret retirement rules, procedures, and requirements for 32BJ members.
• Review the accuracy of all processed pension claims.
• Calculate retirement estimates of benefits based on work history and service credit.
• Research and analyze personnel data to provide information.
• Ensure required supporting documents are submitted and determine needs for additional information.
• Review members' eligibility for retiree health benefits.
• Discuss SRSP distribution options, Social Security, Medicare, and Legal Fund benefits with retirees.
• Work closely with supervisors in maintaining and reviewing work production.
• Assist Retirement Services Analysts with processing batch applications and calculations.
