About the position

The Retirement Systems Information Representative role at the Office of the New York State Comptroller involves providing essential retirement information and support to members of the New York State and Local Retirement System. This position requires a strong understanding of retirement laws and regulations, as well as excellent communication skills to assist members through consultations and inquiries. The role is contingent permanent and offers opportunities for professional growth within a supportive work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Disseminate retirement information to members of the New York State and Local Retirement System.
  • Conduct phone consultations and respond to escalated calls in a Call Center environment.
  • Calculate benefit projections for potential retirees.
  • Assist staff during phone conversations to ensure timely service to members and retirees.
  • Conduct one-on-one consultations at the Buffalo Information Office and various field locations.
  • Assist in the application and distribution of new retirement legislation and related rules and regulations.
  • Complete and approve email inquiries and written correspondence as necessary.
  • Develop informational materials and communicate changes in law or policy to staff.
  • Participate in the development and improvement of infrastructure or special projects supporting information programs.
  • Confer with representatives of participating employers and union groups regarding retirement benefits and compliance with regulations.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree is required for all levels of the position.
  • For Trainee 2, one year of professional experience or a Juris Doctor, master's or higher degree in a related field is required.
  • For Retirement Systems Information Representative 1, two years of professional experience or a Juris Doctor, master's or higher degree in a related field and one year of professional experience is required.
  • Professional experience must include conducting retirement planning consultations, developing informational materials, and responding to inquiries.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a Call Center environment.
  • Knowledge of Retirement and Social Security law.
  • Familiarity with the PeopleSoft system and Retirement System's MEBEL database.
