About the position

The Revenue Accountant at Cengage Group plays a crucial role in understanding and analyzing revenue and returns transactions across various business units. This position is responsible for building impactful reporting and synthesizing data into executive-level summaries, ensuring accurate revenue recognition and compliance with accounting standards. The role requires collaboration with multiple departments and a strong focus on detail and innovation in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Support cross-functional processes related to revenue using JD Edwards Enterprise One & Hyperion.
• Partner with the business to ensure proper revenue treatment in accordance with US GAAP (ASC-606).
• Develop a strong understanding of RevPro, the third-party revenue processing system, and assist in processing transactions.
• Process Depository Sales and associated commission entries.
• Understand various transaction types and product set-up codes and their impact on reported financial information.
• Develop reporting to inform the business and management.
• Create analytical models to identify trends within sales and returns.
• Follow control procedures and support audit requests.
• Participate in other duties as needed to meet department objectives and company goals.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting/Finance desired.
• Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience with revenue transactions and accounting guidance around revenue.
• Solid understanding of MS Excel (pivots & lookups & Power Pivot); experience with a BI solution is a plus.
• Quantitatively inclined, results-oriented, innovative, adaptable, with strong attention to detail.
• Strong problem-solving and analytical capabilities.
• Ability to identify exceptions and develop innovative solutions.
• Strong communication skills to collaborate effectively across the company.
• Experience with ERP Systems such as Oracle, SAP, JD Edwards or Enterprise One, and management tools like Hyperion.
• Proficient with financial reporting and accounting systems and Microsoft Office programs.
