About the position

The Revenue Accounting Manager at the Virginia Department of Taxation is responsible for overseeing the reconciliation of the internal accounting system related to tax transactions, ensuring accuracy in refunds, payments, and distributions to localities and state agencies. This role also involves supervising the Revenue Accounting Office staff, ensuring cross-training and appropriate staffing levels, and maintaining a high standard of accounting practices. The position offers a hybrid telework schedule after training and is located in downtown Richmond, Virginia.

Responsibilities

• Reconcile internal accounting systems for tax transactions including refunds, payments, and bills.
• Ensure timely and accurate distributions to localities, state agencies, and other entities.
• Supervise all staff in the Revenue Accounting Office.
• Ensure staff is cross-trained on all duties and maintain appropriate staffing levels.

Requirements

• Knowledge and experience with state governmental accounting.
• Experience testing or creating revenue accounting transactions.
• Experience distributing revenue to localities or other state entities.
• Knowledge and experience with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
• Experience supervising, coaching, and evaluating the performance of staff members.
• Advanced level of proficiency in Microsoft Excel.

• Extensive knowledge and work experience in accounting.
• CPA (Certified Public Accountant).
• CGFM (Certified Government Financial Manager).
