About the position

The Revenue Accounting Technician I/II position at the Alaska Railroad Corporation is responsible for ensuring the timely and accurate production of freight bills by monitoring and rating freight movements across various online systems. This role involves generating freight payables, auditing invoices, and maintaining customer contract files, while also addressing customer inquiries and discrepancies related to billing.

Responsibilities

  • Audit and rate commodity freight bills according to rate tables, tariff regulations, and external client contracts.
  • Administer and issue incidental, demurrage, transloading, and accessorial charges or other miscellaneous invoices as required.
  • Maintain customer contract files and associated resources.
  • Respond to customer inquiries and resolve discrepancies via telephone, in person, or correspondence.
  • Investigate customer overcharge claims and prepare necessary adjustments.
  • Compile and compute freight payments and prepare monthly reconciliations.
  • Prepare general ledger journal entries to ensure freight revenue is recorded in accordance with GAAP.
  • Function as the subject matter expert on freight billing and associated systems.
  • Verify totals of previous day's work within JD Edwards Financial System.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree in accounting and three years of experience generating invoices using contracts and agreements, or a Bachelor's degree with one year of experience.
  • Experience interpreting contracts and agreements.
  • Knowledge of auditing, reconciling, data verification, and reporting procedures.
  • Proficiency in using computerized client-server applications and integrated software programs.
  • Strong analytical, computer skills, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Professional communication and interpersonal skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with rating and auditing transportation movement using tariffs and contracts.
  • Proficiency in PC word processing and spreadsheet software (Excel and Word preferred).
