About the position

The Chief of Staff for the Department of Revenue in Philadelphia serves as a strategic leader providing executive and analytical support to the Revenue Commissioner. This role involves guiding cross-functional departmental projects, managing workflows, and ensuring the effective execution of critical reports and documents. The Chief of Staff will collaborate with various stakeholders to enhance departmental operations and support the achievement of the Revenue Department's strategic goals.

Responsibilities

  • Work with internal and external department stakeholders and help drive decisions.
  • Ensure execution of critical reports and mission-critical documents, such as strategic plans, and internal and external meetings and events.
  • Follow up on action items to ensure timely progress and track the impact on department operations.
  • Serve as a key thought partner, brainstorming and identifying solutions to challenges.
  • Manage large, often cross-functional, organization-wide projects or initiatives, including maintaining project calendars and tracking multiple projects.
  • Drive administrative-related projects to help achieve higher levels of efficiency and performance.
  • Provide administrative management support including drafting and reviewing emails, reports, memos, presentations, and other correspondence on behalf of the Revenue Commissioner and other department leaders.
  • Support operational program development and act as a liaison between department leadership and programmatic areas.
  • Oversee research on best practices.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in economics, government administration, business administration, public policy or related field.
  • Master's degree in economics, government administration, business administration, public policy, or related field preferred and may be substituted for work experience.
  • Four+ years of experience working in government, budget, accounting, financial analysis or revenue policy.
  • Strong process development skills and policy background is a plus.
  • Ability to organize and handle multiple projects through to completion and consistently meet deadlines.
  • Ability to demonstrate flexibility and exercise the authority of the position.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and professionalism.
  • Working knowledge of a wide array of government functions and policies.
  • Knowledge of fiscal operations and people resources is preferred.
  • Strong judgment and ability to apply critical thinking and tactfully handle various situations, including high-pressure as well as sensitive matters.
  • Possesses strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strategic thinker who is data-driven and analytical when approaching and solving problems.
  • Ability to analyze large amounts of data and information, metrics, and statistical data for accuracy and consistency, and to draw appropriate conclusions and recommendations as a result.
  • Independent self-starter.
  • Excellent project management skills.
