About the position

This position is responsible for entering, reviewing, auditing, and maintaining hospital charges and charge documentation to ensure accuracy and completeness. The role involves facilitating proper charge capture and conducting charge audits, adhering to standard billing policies and reimbursement principles, and utilizing clinical documentation practices and coding standards.

Responsibilities

  • Enter, review, audit, and maintain hospital charges and charge documentation.
  • Facilitate proper charge capture and conduct charge audits.
  • Ensure accurate and timely charge capture methodologies are executed for the assigned work unit.
  • Reconcile charges against source documents to ensure completeness and accuracy.
  • Identify, research, and analyze billing errors and omissions, working with team members to ensure corrections are made.
  • Monitor and resolve claims edits, providing guidance in the correction and prevention of claim edits.
  • Work with management to identify and address root causes of denials and develop strategies to reduce overpayments.
  • Maintain understanding of federal and state regulations and payer requirements to report charge/billing issues.
  • Review Observation accounts and capture infusion and injection charges.
  • Prepare reports and provide summary information to the Revenue Cycle team regarding charge capture and reimbursement compliance.
  • Assist interdepartmental teams in troubleshooting accounts held due to discrepancies.
  • Facilitate communication with care providers regarding documentation opportunities.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Associate degree in coding/billing or a related discipline is desired.
  • Three to five years' experience working with hospital charges, coding, or billing is required.
  • Certification in CCS, CCS-P, COC, CPC, CRCR or specialty coding is desired.
