About the position

The Revenue Integrity Data Analyst I position at the University of Maryland Medical System (UMMS) is an entry-level role designed for recent college graduates. Under direct supervision, the analyst will identify charge capture improvement opportunities and collaborate with the Revenue Integrity team to support annual Revenue Cycle initiatives and priorities. This role is recognized as a developing subject matter expert in HSCRC and clinical service lines. The analyst will work closely with clinical department managers and staff to ensure that process improvement changes are understood and that the charge capture process is yielding expected outcomes. The position serves as a vital link between clinical departments and Revenue Integrity, facilitating the implementation of standardized processes and ensuring efficient and effective charge capture outcomes. The analyst will be responsible for updating charge master files, including HSCRC price changes, and will research various HSCRC and/or CMS inquiries as requested. They will attend cross-functional meetings with more senior analysts to understand required changes to ancillary and application charge capture tools, and will carry out routine integrity checks. The role also involves ensuring that departmental communications are distributed to all stakeholders and obtaining a basic understanding of all charge processes within the organization. The analyst will provide oversight to clinical informatics staff and application analysts, assisting department managers/directors with compliant charge capture workflows. Daily responsibilities include reviewing work queue lists, contacting appropriate owners to ensure timely resolution of held charges, and investigating charging issues. The analyst will collect and document business operations and workflows in support of CDM discovery sessions, summarizing findings and assisting with necessary CDM documentation. They may participate in hospital and HSCRC meetings as an observer and will prepare various revenue-related reports under the guidance of senior team members. The position may also involve assisting with system/process setup for new services and preparing CDM Epic build changes related to assigned service lines.

Responsibilities

  • Identify charge capture improvement opportunities and collaborate with Revenue Integrity team members.
  • Update charge master files, including HSCRC price changes, as directed.
  • Research various HSCRC and/or CMS inquiries as requested.
  • Attend cross-functional meetings with senior analysts to understand required changes to charge capture tools.
  • Update tools and carry out routine integrity checks based on detailed directions and documented processes.
  • Ensure departmental communications are distributed to all stakeholders.
  • Obtain knowledge of all charge processes within the organization and provide oversight to clinical informatics staff.
  • Review work queue lists daily and contact appropriate owners to ensure timely resolution of held charges.
  • Assist with the resolution of accounts in work queues, erroneous or missing charges, and investigate charging issues.
  • Collect and document business operations and workflows in support of CDM discovery sessions.
  • Participate in hospital and HSCRC meetings as an observer.
  • Prepare various revenue-related reports from multiple sources to support hospital operations.
  • Run reports in support of audits and summarize results and findings.
  • Assist with system/process setup for new services by conducting discovery, build, and testing during sessions.
  • Prepare CDM Epic build changes related to assigned service line(s).

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Healthcare, Finance, Accounting, or equivalent related subject is required.
  • Epic CDM Proficiency certification must be obtained within 12 months of hire.
