About the position

The Revenue Supervisor (Medical Billing) is a crucial role within a nonprofit medical service organization's Billing Department. This position involves supervising billing personnel, managing billing systems, and implementing strategies to maximize revenue and improve cash flow. The role requires collaboration with various departments to enhance revenue cycle performance and ensure compliance with healthcare regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise Billing Department personnel and manage billing systems.
  • Develop and implement strategies to maximize revenue billings and collect service reimbursements.
  • Minimize bad debt and improve cash flow while managing the overall health of the organization's receivables.
  • Collaborate with Operations, Finance, and Behavioral Health Providers to enhance revenue cycle performance.
  • Develop and implement written guidelines, policies, and procedures for all work processes.
  • Ensure compliance with rules and regulations from organizations such as the Department of Healthcare Services and HIPAA.
  • Serve on the Compliance Committee and oversee participation in state and county programs.
  • Stay updated on government and third-party reimbursement programs and modify billing procedures as necessary.
  • Monitor, analyze, and interpret federal regulations to ensure adherence and assess revenue generation capabilities.
  • Provide revenue cycle dashboards and KPIs to the CEO/CFO and Program Managers.
  • Act as a liaison between the Billing Department and Client Services, Program Management, and Providers regarding billing and collections.
  • Ensure payment collection rates meet or exceed established goals.
  • Manage the organization's contractual participation with third-party payors, including contract analysis and renegotiations.
  • Promote effective working relations and teamwork to achieve departmental and organizational goals.
  • Conduct audits and reconciliations related to federal, state, and local government contracts.

Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of supervisory experience.
  • Extensive experience with Billing Department functions.
  • Strong oral and written presentation skills.
  • Knowledge of medical insurance billing and collections, including CPT, ICD9, and HCPC coding and medical terminology.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to recognize trends or anomalies.
  • Experience as a department lead or manager within revenue cycle functions in the healthcare industry.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and PC skills.
  • Experience with Medi-Cal, Medicare, private insurance, and State & County programs.
  • Experience working with community providers and a commitment to collaboration.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's Degree in accounting, finance, or business management.
  • Certified Procedural Coder or other medical billing training.
