The Louisiana Department of Revenue (LDR) is dedicated to the fair and efficient collection of state tax revenues, which are essential for funding public services, regulating charitable gaming, and overseeing the sale of alcoholic beverages and tobacco. The department also supports state agencies in the collection of overdue debts. The LDR is organized into various groups, including Tax Collection, Charitable Gaming, Alcohol and Tobacco Control (ATC), Debt Recovery, and the Louisiana Tax Free Shopping Commission. Within this framework, the Revenue Processing Center (RPC) plays a crucial role in the timely processing of tax returns, payments, and related documents. Annually, the RPC processes approximately 13 million items, which include tax returns for 38 different taxes and associated remittances, amounting to around $2 billion in tax payments. The center employs a combination of permanent and temporary staff, variable scheduling, and shift work to meet its operational goals, which directly influence the state's cash flow and the issuance of taxpayer refunds or collection notices. In this position, the incumbent will work in the Document Prep section of the RPC, which is primarily responsible for the opening, sorting, batching, routing, and preparation of all mail received by the department. Key duties include reconciling tax payments and returns to ensure correct application, conducting detailed research on taxpayer accounts using the DELTA system, reviewing tax returns and payment documents, accurately coding remittances and returns to generate system actions, and tracking non-system taxes to ensure proper documentation is collected. The ideal candidate should possess strong customer service skills, the ability to make accurate judgments based on relevant information, and the capability to utilize data effectively to inform recommendations for action.
