About the position
The mission of the Rework Grinder is to remove surface and subsurface defects from castings in order to meet customer specifications. The principal accountabilities include grinding, inspection, and safety. The role involves reviewing inspection paperwork, grinding and blending defect areas on castings, and ensuring compliance with customer specifications through various inspection methods. Safety is a critical aspect of the job, requiring adherence to plant and department safety rules and the safe operation of all equipment and tools. Additional tasks may be assigned as needed.
Responsibilities
- Review inspection paperwork and grind and blend defect areas on castings.
- Blend welds to blueprint tolerances.
- Remove surface and blind cavity defects from castings using rotary files, burrs, abrasives or belts.
- Verify dimensional compliance using micrometers, calipers, and ultrasonic testing.
- Perform fluorescent penetrant inspection tests on parts.
- Complete logs and records.
- Provide work direction and training to junior-level grinders.
- Adhere to plant and department safety rules.
- Safely operate all equipment and tools.
- Identify and report safety problems.
- Handle hazardous waste as required.
Requirements
- Grinding skills and working knowledge of grinding tools, equipment, and materials.
- Basic ability to follow instructions, read, write, and perform arithmetic calculations.
- Ability to use and read dimensional tools including calipers, gauges, and micrometers.
- Ability to read, interpret, and follow specifications on Tech Cards and Process Control Procedures.
- Ability to lift and/or maneuver objects weighing thirty to fifty pounds and occasionally up to eighty pounds.
- Ability to work in difficult working conditions including exposure to noise, dust, chemicals, and temperature extremes.
Nice-to-haves
- Completion of Rework Analyst, Visual Dimensional and Penetrant Inspection Courses.
- Completion of hazardous waste management training.
