About the position

As an RF Hardware Engineer at SpaceX, you will play a crucial role in streamlining the production of avionics hardware across the company's fleet of spacecraft and launch vehicles. Your primary responsibility will be to design new avionics hardware as part of spacecraft system re-architectures, while also improving existing designs. This involves not only creating hardware from scratch but also enhancing the reliability and manufacturability of RF products throughout their life cycle. You will troubleshoot electronic assemblies, identify root causes of issues, implement design updates, and develop fixtures and tools to support these improvements. Your contributions will be vital in advancing SpaceX's mission to explore the stars and enable human life on Mars. In this role, you will be responsible for designing new hardware, redesigning existing hardware, and modifying PCBAs and mechanical drawings to enhance their performance. You will troubleshoot avionics hardware, conduct full functional testing of assembled units, and resolve any anomalies that arise during vehicle operations. Additionally, you will modify electrical schematics and mechanical drawings for flight applications, ensuring they meet reliability and manufacturability standards. Your expertise will also extend to designing and troubleshooting RF test setups and associated support equipment, participating in manufacturing assessments of new RF designs, and driving optimization efforts for cost and manufacturability. This position requires a strong foundation in electrical engineering principles, hands-on experience with electronic components, and proficiency in various software tools. You will work in a fast-paced environment, collaborating with cross-functional teams to achieve mission-critical objectives. Your ability to creatively solve problems and make informed design decisions will be essential as you contribute to the development of cutting-edge avionics technology at SpaceX.

Responsibilities

  • Design new hardware, redesign existing hardware, and perform modifications to PCBAs and mechanical drawings to improve their reliability and manufacturability
  • Responsible for troubleshooting of avionics hardware spanning PCBA board testing and defect detection, full functional testing of an assembled unit, and resolving on-vehicle anomalies
  • Modify electrical schematics and mechanical drawings for flight applications as they relate to reliability and manufacturability
  • Design and troubleshoot RF (UHF, S-Band, X, Ka, or Ku bands) test setups and associated support equipment to support execution of testing strategies
  • Participate in manufacturing assessments of new RF designs and drive optimization for manufacturability and cost

Requirements
