About the position

The RF Hardware Engineer plays a crucial role in the design and development of electronic products, specifically focusing on RF (Radio Frequency) hardware. This position involves not only the creation of new products but also the engineering support for existing ones, ensuring they meet specified design, operational, and cost constraints. The engineer will be responsible for the entire product lifecycle, from initial concept through to production, requiring a deep understanding of RF circuit design and optimization. The role demands a high level of creativity and innovation, as the engineer will need to devise novel solutions to complex problems and adapt to a dynamic work environment. In this position, the RF Hardware Engineer will utilize advanced design tools and methodologies to create schematics and select components for product designs. They will also be involved in debugging prototypes and ensuring that designs are manufacturable and compliant with industry standards. The engineer will lead continuous improvement initiatives for existing hardware products, focusing on enhancing functionality while reducing costs. This role requires strong problem-solving skills, as the engineer will need to conduct investigations and analyze data to address any issues that arise during the design and manufacturing processes. The RF Hardware Engineer must possess excellent organizational skills to effectively manage project timelines and prioritize tasks. Responsibilities

  • Designs and draws schematics using an Altium CAD system.
  • Selects parts and compiles parts list for product design and ECO release.
  • Debugs prototypes using spectrum analyzer, network analyzer, oscilloscopes, and other test equipment.
  • Designs for Manufacturing (DFM) to meet requirements for on-site electronic manufacturing facility.
  • Consolidates designs to minimize scope of manufacturing inventory requirement.
  • Leads continuous improvement efforts for existing hardware products, including function and cost reduction.
  • Certifies completed designs for compliance submittals including UL, FCC, Industry Canada, and cellular carrier certifications.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Wireless Engineering; Master's Degree is a plus.
  • 7+ years minimum in Engineering product design and development for high volume manufacturing.
  • Extensive experience in design & optimization of active RF circuits including amplifiers, receivers, and transmitters; passive RF circuits including filters, impedance matching networks, couplers, power splitters and combiners, phase shifters; RF structures including antennas, transmission lines and connectors, with a frequency range of 900MHz to 2.2 GHz.
  • Proficient in Ansys HFSS or CST Microwave Studio.
  • Working knowledge of Keysight Genesis, ADS electronic design automation, AWR microwave office, Qucs-S or equivalent RF circuit simulation CAD.
  • Experience in microprocessor, digital, analog design, TCP/IP, Ethernet, and WiFi troubleshooting.
  • Power supply design experience.
  • Ability to organize and carry out controlled experiments to assess design parameters.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities, including the capacity to oversee investigations and carry out data analysis as required to address problems.
  • Ability to think creatively and try different approaches as needed to address issues and adapt to a changing work environment.
