About the position

The RF/mmW Hardware Design Engineer will play a crucial role in the Wireless Hardware group, focusing on designing, developing, and optimizing radio frequency hardware circuits and systems for wireless communications devices operating at mmW frequencies. This position involves collaboration with multi-functional teams to integrate cellular radio platforms into Apple's products, ensuring high performance and reliability in wireless connectivity. The engineer will be involved in all stages of product development, from initial concept to mass production, contributing to the advancement of groundbreaking wireless systems.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with multi-functional teams to develop and integrate cellular radio platforms into Apple's products
  • Implement creative RF designs to meet wireless product requirements
  • Contribute to RF/mmW module, board-level, and flex designs up through mmW operating frequencies
  • Author schematics and drive layout optimizations for RF/mmW modules with extensive EM simulations
  • Perform RF system lineup analyses to ensure designs meet industry and internal standards
  • Create and maintain RF/electrical specifications for RF components and drive component development
  • Architect component-level and system-level characterization setups and drive characterization and debug activities in labs and at production partner labs
  • Travel internationally to support prototype hardware builds, with up to 10% travel required.

Requirements

  • BSEE and 3+ years of relevant industry experience
  • Strong knowledge of RF systems principles, RF/mmW hardware design, digital communications, and phased array antenna fundamentals
  • Experience with schematic, layout, and EM simulation flows with tools such as Capture, Allegro, HFSS, ADS
  • Experience in defining RF/mmW conducted and radiated characterization and production test plans
  • Scripting experience in Python for test automation and post-processing
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and a consistent record of teamwork.

Nice-to-haves

  • MSEE or Ph.D and 2+ years of relevant industry experience
  • Expertise in Tx/Rx specification flow down related to linearity and noise
  • Expertise in IC/package co-design and EM/SIPI simulation flows
  • Expertise in module packaging technologies, qualification, and ATE
  • Familiarity with embedded systems and peripheral interfaces
  • Proficiency in wireless communications standards and wireless technology
  • Hands-on experience with 5GNR FR2 product development
  • Hands-on experience with probe stations for conducted characterization and anechoic chambers for OTA characterization, especially at mmW frequencies.
