About the position

The RFID Lab at Auburn University is seeking a motivated and skilled undergraduate student to join as an ALEC Developer. This role is designed for students passionate about software development, providing an opportunity to apply their skills in a dynamic research environment. The developer will work on creating and maintaining web-based applications that enhance the lab's research activities, focusing on optimizing processes and improving efficiency for the ALEC team.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain applications for data management, visualization, and research collaboration.
  • Work closely with researchers to understand their software requirements and provide technical solutions.
  • Participate in the design, testing, and deployment of new software features.
  • Assist in the integration of computational tools and databases.
  • Document and maintain software functionality.
  • Ensure the robustness and reliability of web applications.
  • Perform data collection and data analysis to investigate the performance of large-scale RFID deployments.
  • Create reports for data presentation and customer communication.
  • Evaluate the performance of RFID systems in retail stores and standard lab test environments.
  • Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot RF test equipment.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled as an Auburn University undergraduate student.
  • Majoring in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Strong programming skills with experience in application development (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Python or Java).
  • Experience working with databases (SQL, NoSQL).
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong communication skills and a willingness to engage with non-technical team members.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of data visualization tools and libraries.
  • Technically capable with the ability to quickly become familiar with hardware, software, processes, and new technologies.
  • Basic knowledge of RF systems and computer networks.
  • Preferred RFID experience.
