About the position

Westminster School is seeking a part-time Rink Technician to maintain the Jackson Ice Rink and its associated machinery and equipment. This role requires flexibility to work evenings and weekends, ensuring the rink is in optimal condition for scheduled events. The technician will perform various maintenance tasks, including ice resurfacing and equipment upkeep, contributing to the overall functionality and safety of the rink.

Responsibilities

• Safely perform quality ice resurfacing for the rink, working around scheduled events accordingly.
• Edge ice approximately twice each week.
• Safely maintain Olympia ice resurfacer, including changing propane tank when empty, washing and waxing machine, cleaning tires, changing ice shaving blade, etc.
• Monitor ice edger and ice-making equipment (compressors, chiller system, dehumidification system, condenser system, etc.).
• Record brine and floor temperatures, check oil and water levels, and replace water filter daily.
• Maintain skate sharpening machine, including cleaning the filter monthly and replacing wheels and diamonds as needed.
• Sharpen skates, cut hockey sticks, and repair hockey nets as needed.
• Perform routine custodial duties for the rink.
• Secure and lock up rink after events.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• 1-3 years of ice rink maintenance experience strongly preferred, but training opportunities available.
• Ability to operate heavy machinery.
• Basic mechanical knowledge required; refrigeration preferred.
• Excellent verbal communication skills.
• Excellent organizational and time management skills.
• Ability to keep accurate records.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Must be positive and get along with visitors, vendors, students, and colleagues.
• Valid Driver's License required.

Nice-to-haves

• Certified Ice Technician or Certified Rink Administrator designation via US Ice Rink Association a plus.
