About the position

The Risk and Compliance Manager at BMO is responsible for implementing and overseeing first line of defense programs to ensure compliance with operational non-financial risks. This role involves fostering a strong risk management culture, collaborating with various stakeholders, and ensuring adherence to regulatory requirements. The manager will also support the development of action plans to mitigate identified risks and enhance team performance through coaching and development.

Responsibilities

• Support the implementation and administration of first line of defense programs.
• Collaborate with first line employees and second & third line functions to manage compliance and operational risks.
• Foster a culture aligned with BMO's values and promote diversity and inclusion.
• Build interdependent teams to create value for stakeholders.
• Monitor and advise on risk management requirements within defined risk appetite.
• Manage large and complex risk programs and ensure regulatory adherence.
• Interpret regulatory compliance issues and address gaps and issues.
• Act as a subject matter expert in internal control systems.
• Build effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
• Develop and maintain business/group procedures and communicate changes.
• Facilitate training to ensure understanding of compliance requirements.
• Support internal/external audits and regulatory examinations.

Requirements

• Typically between 5 - 7 years of relevant experience.
• Post-secondary degree in a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• In-depth program management skills.
• Deep knowledge and technical proficiency in risk management.
