About the position

The Risk and Compliance Manager for the City of Richmond is responsible for planning, directing, managing, and overseeing projects related to safety and risk within the organization. This role involves promoting occupational health and safety, ensuring regulatory compliance, and managing risk assessment and mitigation strategies. The position requires collaboration with various stakeholders and has a significant impact on the administration of City government.

Responsibilities

• Develop and execute a comprehensive risk management program.
• Conduct regular risk assessments and identify emerging risks.
• Prepare and present comprehensive reports on risk findings and mitigation strategies.
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, including OSHA and NFPA codes.
• Oversee the incident investigation process and develop recommendations for prevention.
• Develop and deliver training programs on risk management and safety procedures.
• Build and maintain collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
• Manage the annual budget for risk management programs and initiatives.
• Participate in developing emergency preparedness plans.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Risk Management, Public Administration, Industrial Hygiene, Safety Science, or a closely related field.
• Master's Degree in a related field preferred.
• 7-10 years of experience in risk management within a metro-size organization, preferably in public safety or government.
• Expertise in risk assessment methodologies and data analysis.
• Strong knowledge of relevant regulations (OSHA, NFPA, etc.).
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite applications.
• Strong interpersonal and leadership skills.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience in a metro-area fire department is highly desirable.
• Fluent working knowledge of applicable local, state, and federal laws and regulations.
