About the position

The Risk and Emergency Management Technician assists in the development and administration of risk and emergency management programs for the City of Victorville. This role involves performing complex technical duties to support the city's risk management, emergency management, and disaster preparedness initiatives, ensuring compliance with safety regulations and enhancing community preparedness.

Responsibilities

  • Provide general administrative support for the Risk Management Division, including answering phones, ordering supplies, processing payments, and coordinating meetings.
  • Respond to requests for information from the public and City staff.
  • Review property damage reports, assess situations for liability and recovery potential, and prepare subrogation demands.
  • Assist with processing claims against the City and inform claimants about the claims process.
  • Implement city-wide safety compliance activities and maintain safety records and reports.
  • Enter information into databases to maintain safety and claims records and produce related reports.
  • Maintain division webpages and create newsletters, bulletins, and other documents.
  • Develop and implement public outreach campaigns for emergency preparedness.
  • Assist in emergency drills and tabletop exercises for City facilities and staff.
  • Gather and review data for budget development and grant applications, and monitor grants received.
  • Support emergency activation and readiness functions, including training sessions for emergency management skills.
  • Maintain emergency contact lists and ensure readiness of emergency operation centers.
  • Promote safety practices among coworkers and monitor compliance with safety regulations.

Requirements

  • 1 year of experience in emergency management or related field.
  • Strong analytical and time management skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both verbal and written forms.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with grant writing and monitoring.
  • Familiarity with emergency management training and drills.

Benefits

  • Full-time position with a monthly salary range of $5,952 - $7,234.
