About the position

The Risk and Underwriting Advisor, Retail Network at Express Scripts will play a pivotal role in collaborating with various Supply Chain teams and cross-functional stakeholders to enhance client-specific retail network modeling optimization. This position is essential for new business initiatives, market checks, and renewals. The Advisor will work closely with teams such as Retail Network Underwriting Analysis, Product, Sales & Account Management (SAM), Core Underwriting, and Next Generation Engine (NGE) Support, among others. As a recognized subject matter expert in retail network operations, the Advisor will be responsible for identifying and implementing modeling improvements and overall process enhancements within the retail network and Supply Chain sectors. In this role, the Advisor will collaborate with SAM and Core Underwriting teams to gain insights into the current financial positions of clients, their RFP requirements, and the strategic options available for market checks, renewals, and new business opportunities. The Advisor will ideate and propose strategic retail network optimization opportunities, weighing the long-term benefits and challenges associated with these initiatives. Additionally, the Advisor will support Retail Underwriting leadership by reviewing complex client retail network modeling and translating key components and assumptions into clear, concise formats for leadership reviews and Pricing Committee discussions. The Advisor will evaluate client data, create scenarios, and provide expert modeling guidance that aligns with departmental strategic objectives, ultimately driving value for both clients and Express Scripts. This role also involves collaborating with various departments to ensure accurate representation of modeling and requirements for custom or narrow network options, analyzing the financial impact of client-requested network changes, and participating in interdepartmental discussions regarding retail network financials. The Advisor will document best practices and standard operating procedures (SOPs) for the retail network modeling team and assist in optimizing work processes to achieve departmental goals. Special projects and presentations for the Retail Underwriting team will also be part of the responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with SAM and Core Underwriting teams to understand current client financial position, RFP requirements, and retail network approach.
  • Ideate and propose strategic retail network optimization opportunities and understand long-term benefits and challenges.
  • Support Retail Underwriting team leadership by reviewing key/complex client retail network modeling and translating modeling components into understandable formats.
  • Evaluate client data, create scenarios, and provide expert modeling and guidance for existing and new clients.
  • Discuss potential custom or narrow network options with Retail Underwriting leadership, Core Underwriting, and SAM.
  • Analyze the financial impact of client requested network changes in collaboration with Core Underwriting.
  • Strategize with cross-functional areas of Express Scripts, including Account Management, Core Underwriting, Product, Finance, and New Sales.
  • Participate in interdepartmental team calls to discuss retail network financials.
  • Document best practices and SOPs for retail network modeling team.
  • Assist with optimization of work processes for retail modeling strategies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Statistics, Mathematics, Economics, or equivalent work experience.
  • 3-5 years of extensive experience in Healthcare, Financial Analysis, or related area.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Excel; experience with SQL/SAS/Access is a plus.
  • Demonstrate modeling, trending, and forecasting skills; client guarantee underwriting knowledge preferred.
  • Demonstrate initiative with commitment and ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively in complex matrix organizations and agile teams.
  • Blend creativity, relentless problem-solving, and business acumen to drive innovation through analytics.
  • Strong verbal/written communication skills to work with various matrix partners.
  • Knowledge of PBM or Healthcare industry preferred.
