About the position

The Risk Control Consultant at McGriff is responsible for delivering value-added risk control services to commercial clients, enhancing client relationships, and assisting in business acquisition and retention. This role involves collaborating with clients to develop safety business plans, providing training seminars, and utilizing data analytics to identify loss drivers, all while maintaining a focus on improving client safety and reducing overall risk costs.

Responsibilities

  • Impact retention of existing client base by increasing the value of the Client/McGriff partnership.
  • Lower the accident frequency and loss ratio of assigned clients as measured by contingency plan results with assigned insurance markets.
  • Assist in the acquisition of new business by participating in responses to request for broker service proposals, new business sales calls, and prospect meetings with both producer staff and insurance carrier loss control staff.
  • Act as a first point of contact and resource for clients regarding their risk management, property protection, and employee safety related needs.
  • Keep abreast of risk management and occupational safety and health consulting by pursuing continuing education opportunities.
  • Develop safety business plans with clients and insurance carrier loss control staff that impact the client's ability to manage their safety and health processes.
  • Provide client training seminars on a regional and local basis directed at reducing the client's overall cost of risk.
  • Use data and analytics to help clients identify loss drivers.
  • Understand and communicate all of McGriff's internal risk management resources and promote them internally and externally.
  • Regularly participate in office sales meetings and frequently interact/communicate with production and marketing staff.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Five years of experience in a risk management consulting position either in private industry or insurance company capacity or equivalent education and related training
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to travel in assigned territory including overnight on a regular basis
  • Problem-solving ability and negotiating skills working with senior level client staff
  • Above average interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work in a team-based environment
  • Goal and result-oriented
  • Ability to complete assigned tasks with minimum supervision.

Nice-to-haves

  • Associate in Risk Management (ARM)
  • Associate Safety Professional (ASP)
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP)
  • Certified Fire Protection Specialist (CFPS) or other nationally recognized safety certification
  • Experience in multi-line coverage and target industry business groups as defined by McGriff marketing department
  • Experience using RMIS systems and databases.
