About the position

The Risk Control Intern position offers a hands-on opportunity to gain experience in commercial lines insurance, risk management, and safety and health. Interns will work directly with risk control professionals, engage with customers to promote risk awareness, and contribute to initiatives that enhance risk management capabilities. This role involves learning best practices to ensure workplace safety and mitigate risks associated with various business operations.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in field surveys by shadowing experienced professionals to qualify loss exposures and safety protocols.
  • Support customer consultation efforts to promote awareness and action for managing risks related to worker, property, liability, and auto accidents.
  • Analyze data to identify trends and develop strategies for risk mitigation.
  • Contribute to the creation of detailed risk reports and recommendations for underwriters.
  • Engage in meaningful projects involving research, data analysis, and problem-solving to develop innovative risk control solutions.
  • Continuously learn and share safety knowledge and best practices to prevent claims impact on businesses and communities.
  • Complete assigned tasks and projects efficiently, following guidelines from supervisors or mentors.
  • Conduct research, gather data, and analyze information relevant to assigned projects.
  • Take responsibility for administrative and support tasks within the department.
  • Collaborate with colleagues and supervisors to communicate progress and challenges effectively.
  • Work on projects that allow collaboration with other interns and associates in different departments.
  • Identify and resolve issues that arise during the internship, demonstrating problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrate professionalism, punctuality, and a strong work ethic throughout the internship.
  • Maintain accurate records and prepare reports or presentations as required.
  • Attend business unit meetings and create presentations as needed.
  • Seek feedback from supervisors to improve performance.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED and/or relevant experience.
  • Actively enrolled in an academic institution pursuing a degree in Risk Management, Occupational Safety, Engineering, Business, Finance, Economics, Law, Psychology, or a related field, or a recent graduate within the past 12 months.
  • Valid driver's license with a driving record that meets company standards.
