About the position

The Risk Control Technical Consultant plays a crucial role in providing in-depth account knowledge related to hazards, controls, and management to underwriters. This position involves evaluating how companies identify and manage their inherent risk factors, particularly for larger and more complex accounts. The consultant will work collaboratively with underwriting and other teams to ensure a profitable book of business while delivering exceptional customer service through risk assessment evaluations and tailored recommendations.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with Underwriting to select, retain, and grow a profitable book of business.
  • Build and maintain productive relationships with Underwriting, Claim, Risk Control Specialists, and Brokers.
  • Complete all lines risk assessment evaluations for diverse businesses with moderate to high complexity.
  • Write technically detailed reports that communicate clear assessments of risk and recommendations.
  • Discover and evaluate customer needs through loss analysis and readiness.
  • Identify uncontrolled exposures and influence customers to make improvements.
  • Provide solutions for risk mitigation using available resources.
  • Stay current with technical subject matters and regulatory environments.
  • Create a valued customer experience through assessments and service encounters.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or graduate degree in environmental health and safety, engineering, construction management, or related fields.
  • Five years of experience in safety, risk control/management, or a related field.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Strong knowledge of the insurance industry and business acumen.
  • Recognized relevant certifications (such as ASP, CSP, ARM, CFPS).
  • Technical aptitude and detail-oriented approach.
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to establish credibility and rapport quickly.
  • Experience in a collaborative environment.
  • Critical thinking and influencing skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in manufacturing or construction environments.
  • Familiarity with environmental issues and regulations.
