About the position

The Risk Control Technical Consultant Field position at Travelers Insurance involves providing in-depth risk assessment and management support to underwriters and clients. The consultant will evaluate hazards and controls related to various businesses, particularly those with complex risk factors. This role emphasizes collaboration with underwriting and other departments to ensure a profitable book of business while delivering exceptional customer service and risk mitigation solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with Underwriting to select, retain, and grow a profitable book of business.
  • Build and maintain productive relationships with Underwriting, Claim, Risk Control Specialists, and Brokers.
  • Complete all lines risk assessment evaluations for diverse businesses with moderate to high complexity.
  • Write detailed reports that communicate risk assessments and recommendations clearly.
  • Evaluate customer needs through loss analysis and readiness to provide Risk Control products and services.
  • Identify uncontrolled exposures and influence customers to make improvements.
  • Provide solutions for risk mitigation using available resources.
  • Stay current with technical subject matters and regulatory environments.
  • Create a valued customer experience through assessments and service encounters.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or graduate degree in environmental health and safety, engineering, construction management, or related technical fields.
  • Five years of experience in safety, risk control/management, or a related field.
  • Strong knowledge of the insurance industry and business acumen.
  • Recognized relevant certifications (such as ASP, CSP, ARM, CFPS).
  • Technical aptitude and detail-oriented approach.
  • Superior communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to establish credibility and rapport quickly.
  • Experience in a collaborative environment.
  • Critical thinking and influencing skills.
  • Ability to negotiate change for optimal outcomes.
  • Valid driver's license.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience working in manufacturing or large warehouse operations.
  • Familiarity with multi-location companies and larger fleet exposures.
