About the position

The Risk Control Technical Consultant at Travelers Insurance is responsible for providing in-depth risk assessments and evaluations to underwriters, focusing on identifying and managing hazards and risk factors for complex accounts. This role involves collaborating with various teams to ensure a unified approach to customer service and risk mitigation, ultimately contributing to the growth of a profitable book of business.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with Underwriting to select, retain, and grow a profitable book of business.
  • Build and maintain productive relationships with Underwriting, Claim, Risk Control Specialists, and Brokers.
  • Complete all lines risk assessment evaluations for diverse businesses with moderate to high complexity.
  • Write technically detailed reports that communicate clear assessments of risk and recommendations.
  • Evaluate customer needs through loss analysis and readiness to provide Risk Control products and services.
  • Identify uncontrolled exposures and influence customers to make improvements.
  • Provide solutions for risk mitigation using available resources.
  • Stay current with technical subject matters, regulatory environment, and emerging issues.
  • Create a valued customer experience through assessments and service encounters.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or graduate degree in environmental health and safety, engineering, construction management, basic sciences, or related technical fields.
  • Five years of experience in safety, risk control/management, or a related field.
  • Strong knowledge of the insurance industry and business acumen.
  • Recognized relevant certifications (such as ASP, CSP, ARM, CFPS).
  • Technical aptitude and detail-oriented approach.
  • Superior communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to establish credibility and rapport quickly.
  • Experience working in a collaborative environment.
  • Critical thinking and influencing skills.
  • Ability to give and receive coaching and feedback.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in occupational/environmental health and safety, science, engineering, or construction.
  • Relevant military experience.
