About the position

The Risk Data Engineer/Analyst role at Compass Group involves leveraging data analytics to enhance safety and risk management initiatives. This position focuses on developing backend systems and providing strategic insights to support safety projects, utilizing big data management, predictive modeling, and data mining techniques. The ideal candidate will be analytical, detail-oriented, and skilled in various data tools, contributing to the optimization of safety metrics and reporting.

Responsibilities

  • Research, hypothesize and develop analytical approaches for identifying, analyzing, and interpreting trends or patterns in complex data sets.
  • Create custom websites and online portals to connect safety initiatives, training, and communications to employees across various sites.
  • Utilize big data technologies for generating solutions and enhancements of current reporting and analysis of safety metrics.
  • Build the case for changes to current practices, partnering with stakeholders on design, testing, implementation, and evaluation of process changes.
  • Develop, update, and analyze metrics to create predictive analytics/modeling by leveraging existing data and discovering new data collection opportunities.
  • Assist in monthly operational reporting that highlights company performance.
  • Create and design forms and end-user views in the Risk Management Information System (Origami Risk) to enhance user experience.
  • Promote a continual improvement mentality and introduce best practices across sectors and within the team.

Requirements

  • Bachelor degree in Computer Science, Data Science, or Information Technology or equivalent working experience.
  • Solid skills in Excel, PowerPoint, and Data Systems/BI programs (e.g., Microsoft BI, Tableau).
  • Expertise in SQL and experience with related databases (e.g., MySQL, Oracle, PostgreSQL).
  • Familiarity with big data technologies (e.g., Spark, Hadoop) and warehousing solutions (e.g., Snowflake, Amazon Redshift, Google BigQuery).
  • Proficient in CSS, HTML, SQL, and other coding languages.
  • Proficiency in data modeling techniques and methodologies.
  • Ability to analyze, evaluate, and interpret complex data into presentations and visualizations.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong relationship-building skills to work with business partners and corporate safety teams.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with data visualization tools like Tableau or Microsoft Power BI.
  • Knowledge of safety and risk management practices.
