About the position

The Risk Director, Investment Banking is a leadership role within the Commercial Banking Risk team at Citizens. This position supports the investment banking business, which encompasses syndicated loan underwriting, sales & trading, debt and equity securities underwriting, and mergers and acquisitions advisory. The Risk Director is responsible for establishing and monitoring material risk related to investment banking, developing a comprehensive risk management program, and ensuring compliance with internal policies and regulatory requirements. This role requires strong collaboration with business leaders and regulators to maintain effective risk management practices.

Responsibilities

  • Manage all aspects of risk and assess ongoing material risks associated with investment banking businesses.
  • Develop and maintain an effective end-to-end Risk Management program including control effectiveness measures.
  • Responsible for issue management and partnering with business leaders to develop action plans for remediation.
  • Provide day-to-day support to the business unit on regulatory compliance and risk management best practices.
  • Ensure appropriate exam outcomes through exam management protocols and maintain relationships with regulators.
  • Lead teams on risk and product-related initiatives to meet corporate and business line objectives.
  • Advise on new products and initiatives from a risk and control perspective, ensuring proper governance and controls are in place.
  • Manage and build multiple teams of skilled colleagues, including technical subject matter experts.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of risk management or equivalent experience in securities underwriting and trading.
  • Expert knowledge of FINRA and OCC internal controls and risk assessment requirements.
  • Experience in a highly regulated environment, preferably under SEC, FINRA, and banking regulatory agencies.
  • Knowledge of securities underwriting, sales, and trading risk management practices and regulatory requirements.
  • Strong decisiveness and sound judgment skills.
  • Ability to develop and maintain high-impact relationships with senior executives.
  • Excellent influencing and conflict resolution skills.
  • Strong business writing skills.
  • Proven leadership and management skills in a professional environment.
  • Project management skills to support multiple complex assignments.
  • Proficient in MS Word, MS Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio.
